Added by Firegroup on 15th December 2023

A fine early 19th Century antique Scottish oak carved panel, profusely decorated throughout. The Arms are those of John William Robert Kerr, 7th Marquess of Lothian.

Styled Lord Newbattle until 1815 and Earl of Ancram from then 1815 to 1824, he was a Scottish Tory Politician. He served briefly as Captain of the Yeomen of the Guard under Sir Robert Peel between September and November 1841.

This was removed from Newbattle Abbey (Home of the Kerr Family) stately home and was most likely above a fireplace or bed.
